Following a good start to the season against Crystal Palace last week, the LFC Foundation team were looking to continue their good form against Burnley FC A.
The game started evenly with both teams looking to get their passing games started.
However it was a moment of magic kick started the game into life. John McGrath picked the ball up on the right wing just inside the Burnley half and drove at the left back. He backed him up inside the box, jinked past him this left McGrath one and one with the goalkeeper and coolly slotted the ball in the goal on 8 minutes.
LFC Foundation team then continued to probe the Burnley FC team with good possession with Stephens and Hajdari, who was making his first appearance for the U19’s, switching the play with good effect.
After good work down the right from Smyth and Hanlon, LFC foundation won a corner. From the resulting corner Hajdari kept the ball alive in the box and Sean Wilson continued his excellent scoring record and headed in from close range on 29 mins.
Changes at half time saw Cain and Cullen enter the game for LFC foundation team.
The second half was much more even with the strong Burnley FC team pressing forward and not allowing LFC Foundation any time to play.
McGrath and Cain were a threat down either flank but it wasn’t until the 80th minute and another moment of quality from LFC Foundation that they were able to increase the lead further.
Brima and Cullen combined to get the ball to Cain on the left who sent an unstoppable shot towards the goal that the Burnley goalkeeper couldn’t hold.
Ward and Al-Abiad entered the game for the impressive Lowey and Brima and settled into the game well.
McGrath then completed the scoring in the 84th minute with another sublime finish curling a left footed shot into the top corner.
The game was played at a high tempo and both teams should be congratulated.
The LFC Foundation team now travel to Northampton looking to continue their impressive start to the season.
